Social Studies
Grade 5 Course Overview

Our 5th graders continue the elementary sequence of study. Students in 5th grade social studies will examine several eras in our early history through the concepts of cause and effect, identity and conflict. They begin with the colonization of what is now our country and conclude their study in the mid-19th century as our country expands and changes once again. Throughout the year, students will hone inquiry skills and use a variety of primary and secondary sources in their shared inquiry. Reading, writing, speaking and listening skills are embedded throughout the year.
