Our Veterans’ Day assemblies last week were memorable for all – Veterans, staff, and students. The children were spectacular in their singing of patriotic songs and in the respect that they showed to the honored guests in attendance. Thank you for all of the support from the PTC – from the Honor Board to the refreshments – that made the day so special. Read on!
On Friday, November 11th, East School held its second annual Veterans Day assembly, “Saying Thank You!”, to honor those in our East families who have served courageously for our country. Welcomed by a sea of American flags in the front circle of East School, more than 20 Veterans from the East School community – parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and great-grandparents – joined us for a wonderful program that both honored our Veterans and educated our students. Fourth grade members of our East Ambassadors student group greeted guests as they arrived at East, and a Color Guard presentation of the American flag by fourth grade Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in full uniform opened our assembly.
The program consisted of patriotic songs, information about each branch of service, the history of Veterans Day, and introductions of each of the Veterans joining us. Each Veteran received an American flag and bundle of hand-made cards, as well as a hug from their loved one at East. Between the assemblies, our Veterans enjoyed a reception with light refreshments thanks to our PTC Veterans Day committee.
To further honor present Veterans and those Veterans who have passed on, our front foyer now features a Veterans Honor Board with photos of Veterans from East families. Students and staff have stopped in the hallway to admire with the utmost respect this wonderful Honor Board. Please stop by over the next few weeks to see this beautiful tribute.
We appreciate the support from East staff and families who helped to make all of this possible and we thank the Veterans of our country for their courage and service.
Please note that fall trimester progress reports will be sent home across the district elementary schools on Friday, December 2nd. This is different from past years when progress reports were sent home just prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. The change in date takes into account the later start date of this school year to mark trimesters in equal intervals, and it also allows parents to have prompt opportunities for follow-up at parent conferences the week of December 5th to address any questions they may have regarding the progress report. Please be in touch if you have any questions.
