Opening Night is April 25th! The 37th Annual Senior Art Show entitled “Metamorphosis”, marks a very special experience for a group of New Canaan High School seniors. Each student will have their artwork on display in the NCHS High School Art Gallery.
The exhibition celebrates the creative accomplishments of NCHS senior art students and consists of ten, one-person retrospectives in a variety of media including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, digital media and film.
The Senior Art Show allows students to generate a one-person exhibit that is entirely their own creation. The student responsibilities include creating a themed title and poster for the exhibit, planning and creating the exhibit, generating publicity, and selecting their work for the show.
The following 18 seniors are featured in the show: Brooke Anfidsen, Apollonia Antoniou, Justin Barnum, Griffin Bramwit, Madelyn Casey, Aaron DeChiara, Jasper Engle, Jake Fox, Alexandra Gelvin, Kailey Marti, Maren McDaniel, Natalie Minckler, Olivia Mitchell, Christian Passios, Edward Rodgers, Halle Roddy, Clara Wollmeringer and Eric Zhao.
NCHS’s senior show is unique in that it challenges each student to present his or her work as a one-person “retrospective” that can be drawn from any artwork he or she has created throughout their high school years. The organization of this exhibit is meant to draw attention to each student’s individual portfolio and distinctive artistic style creating their personal “voice.” The challenge of evaluating and choosing one’s own work is exciting and demanding to the artistically talented students. Many of our seniors are planning to pursue their artistic talents at the college level next year.
Advising students on the planning and organizing of the event were their art teachers, Jennifer Sinski, Kimanne Core and Maggie Pennoyer.
The senior exhibition will also give three seniors an opportunity to have their work purchased for the NCHS Fritz Eager Foundation for Art Education Art Collection. The purchased works of art will then be on permanent display throughout the high school and the NCPS district offices. This art collection began in 1969 in the memory of New Canaan High School art student Fritz (Frederick) Eager. The Fritz Eager selection committee is composed of high school administration and professional artists.
Opening Reception is Thursday, April 25th, 5-7pm. The exhibit will run until June 7th and will be available to view at the NCHS Art Gallery.
