New Canaan High School Art Students Secure 10 Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards (Image is "Grandmother Beatriz"  by Anna Cuesta)

The Connecticut Art Education Association recently announced that this year, 10 of their Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards would be given to student-recipients from New Canaan High School. The 2023 Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards are prestigious awards given to top-performing Connecticut-state students for exemplary work in the field of art. They are broken down into three levels of distinction, Honorable Mention, Silver Key, and Gold Key winners, with Gold Key recipients gaining eligibility to move on to the National Scholastic Awards for additional artistic recognition.

• St. Patrick's Cathedral by Kailey Marti, Printmaking Category, Gold Key Winner.


• Rosary by Josef Gashi, Photography Category, Silver Key Winner.


• Tinted Faces by Trey Walker, Photography Category, Silver Key Winner.


• Hospital's Ball Machine by Kailey Marti, Painting Category, Gold Key Winner.


• Grandmother Beatriz by Anna Cuesta, Drawing and Illustration Category, Silver Key
Winner.


• Tier 1 - Limbo by Alexandra Gelvin, Drawing and Illustration Category, Honorable
Mention.


• School Stress by Amy Meng, Drawing and Illustration Category, Silver Key Winner.

Artwork from the NCHS Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards recipients can be viewed from January 17 - February 3rd at the Connecticut Scholastic Art Exhibition, located in Taub Hall at the University of Hartford. An awards ceremony will also be held in celebration of the student’s recognition on Sunday, January 29th at 2pm at the Lincoln Theatre on the University of Hartford Campus.

The CT Regional Scholastic Art Award Program is a non-profit, volunteer-based activity
recognizing high-level artwork created by Connecticut-state students in public, private, and
parochial schools. Student Artwork is reviewed by a jury of peers with professional art
backgrounds, such as university faculty and professional artists, to determine winners based on
student merit and artistic ability. Winners from the CT Regional Scholastic Art Awards may be selected to receive state-level awards, including:

• The American Visions Award for Connecticut
• The Hartford Art School Scholarship
• Connecticut Women Artists Awards
• Gold Portfolio Award
• Numerous cash and product awards in media categories.
