East School second graders were recently treated with a visit from Mannie Nogueira, a professional Bicycle Motocross athlete. Also called BMX, the sport involves riders testing out various dirt tracks and performing tricks, jumps and more. In the official BMX competitions, there are several rounds of races in which eliminations take place, to ultimately crown one final winner.
During his visit to East School, students got to watch Mannie perform several bike tricks up close. He impressed the crowd with a special skill in which he lined up three teachers on the floor and performed a bike jump over them.
Mannie also spoke to the second graders about the value of hard work, setting goals and following through with them, and pushing through difficult situations. As a BMX athlete, his journey began in 2009 when he began spending time on his bike following his dreams. He was ranked the top amateur rider in North America in 2015, and since then has been bumped up to Pro class.
Currently, Mannie travels to schools to speak to students and spread his message of determination and hard work in achieving goals. Thank you so much Manny and the East School PTC for coordinating this memorable event for our students!
