NEW CANAAN, CT (October 2024) — New Canaan Public Schools has once again proven its educational excellence by being ranked the #1 school district in Connecticut in Niche’s 2025 Best Schools and Districts rankings, released this week. In addition to leading the state, the district achieved impressive national recognition, ranking #30 out of 10,561 school districts across the country.
Niche’s comprehensive ranking system awarded New Canaan Public Schools an overall grade of A+, along with top marks in several key categories:
#1 of 134 for Best Places to Teach in Connecticut
#1 of 131 for Districts with the Best Teachers in Connecticut
#3 of 118 for Best School Districts for Athletes in Connecticut
New Canaan Public Schools, serving over 4,000 students in grades PK through 12 with a 12:1 student-teacher ratio, also excelled in additional national rankings:

#36 of 11,406 for Best Places to Teach in America
Within Connecticut, New Canaan High School was recognized as the #2 Best Public High School out of 201, and it achieved national acclaim by being ranked #72 of 21,283 for Best High Schools for Athletes in the country.
At the elementary level, New Canaan’s schools also led the state, with West, East, and South Elementary Schools ranked as the top 3 Best Public Elementary Schools out of 575 in Connecticut, further solidifying the district's reputation for excellence across all grade levels.
