Dear Saxe Students and Families,
Greetings from Saxe Middle School! We are a learning community that is proud to serve our students, and families, of New Canaan. Middle-level education is a unique time in the lives of our children and we take great pride in our well-rounded approach that considers the whole child throughout their middle school experience. We nurture an environment where experiences in our academics, arts, and extracurricular activities are challenging, enriching, and yet still fun. This includes a careful balance of exposure to new opportunities, overcoming obstacles, sometimes failing, and learning the skills to be flexible, adaptable, and resilient learners and people. Our ongoing focus on wellness in each of the cognitive, affective, physical, & social domains, is embedded throughout all content areas and reinforces our focus on being a caring community where students know that they belong.
At Saxe Middle School, we foster a culture where our students know that we believe in them, that we believe they are capable of navigating challenging situations, that we believe in our school community, and that we believe in being good citizens. There are many moving parts that make a school building come alive and provide a rich learning experience for all of our students. It is a careful balance between remaining happy, healthy, and well, while simultaneously being resilient, committed, and able to learn and grow in a meaningful manner.
Whatever the chosen path for each individual student, it is our intent to nurture and grow good people who care about one another and their community. We are Saxe Middle School and we want to provide the best, safest, and most well-rounded experience possible, for all. Throughout the year, we enjoy celebrating our Saxe students, staff, and activities through our weekly newsletter (saxems.com), our website, and our X (formerly Twitter) handle, @SaxeMS.
Please feel free to follow along and I look forward to connecting, or reconnecting, with each of you over the course of the year!
Sincerely,
Mr. David M. Gusitsch, Principal of Saxe Middle School
